Title:Senior Commodity Manager Description: The Senior Commodity Manager for JDM, CM, and Stragetic Commodities is responsible for the sourcing, manufacturing development, execution, and production of Seagate’s differentiated and Consumer Storage Products. Part of company’s Consumer Solutions business is the creation and development of our world-class designs and as such, the management of the supply chains is required to be equally unique, innovative and specialized. This position will be the overall business owner for select JDM, CM, and strategic commodities as well as key sub-tier supplier relationships. Will own the strategy development and implementation, as well key supplier performance areas such as supply, quality, availability, and technology. Emphasis will be on strategic sourcing and acquisition of key materials such as Packaging and Mechanical. Will work closely with Local JDM/ CMs, Core Teams, Design Engineering, Marketing, Service, and SQE teams to assure strategy execution and that technology and supply are in sync. Will own and lead cost reduction strategies. Will lead competitive analysis to identify best in class design concepts and works with interdepartmental counterparts to integrate component and process ideas to provide robust and cost effective design. Lead and Manage strategic relationships with suppliers. Negotiates cost, contracts, agreements and allocations for major commodities to achieve lowest cost of acquisition and assure supply continuity. Performs cost analysis and volume planning for major commodities to assure the lowest cost of acquisition. Attains and keeps current technical and commercial understanding of goods and services purchased as well as the overall market conditions. Identifies and selects suppliers for major commodities and ensures backup sources are in place where applicable. Evaluates suppliers‘ production capacity and ability to meet commitments as well as respond to upside demand. Drives implementation of Supply Chain Initiatives with supplier base. Develops new supply sources when technology requires it or supply is inadequate. Conducts quarterly or periodic reviews with suppliers to ensure all requirements are being met and that deficient areas are receiving the proper level of focus and attention. Will be viewed as company "guru" for assigned commodities. This position must possess the leadership capabilities to support and drive the following: 1) Cross functional support: with Seagate‘s industrial design, product development and operations teams 2) Supply chain management: identification, development, negotiation and management of existing and developing company mechanical suppliers. There is a strong Asian supply base, which requires travel 3) Build Support: on site management of enclosure manufacturing partners to manage the development builds, risk mitigation and ramp 4) Cost: development, negotiation and execution of a part and assembly cost strategy. An understanding of mechanical manufacturing techniques is important to better evaluate supplier capabilities and opportunities for Seagate 5) On-time-delivery: schedule, capacity and supply planning to meet Seagate’s production demand 6) Risk Mitigation: evaluation of technical and business risks using data based analysis and developing sound risk mitigation alternatives 7) Program Management: the ability to manage all of the above tasks and personnel resources Qualifications: Minimum 10 years experience in the Materials Commodity sourcing. Good understanding of Mechanical components at the consumer product level. Need to have experience in managing second tier suppliers through the JDM & CMs. Education: BS degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience in the technical area.
