Purpose & general responsibilities of the position:
You will be responsible for the smooth functioning of the entire team. In addition,you are responsible for your team‘s:
-Budget/Full Year Estimates
-Staff development
-Business development initiatives/growth
You are expected to play a pivotal role in the continued development and healthy succession planning for the team, in conjunction with your manager.You are expected to travel to the extent required by the company,and you will be provided with the training needed to do the tasks expected.
Specific responsibilities of the position:
1.Operational Excellence
-Where necessary and applicable, obtain feedback from team members and initiate discussions with carriers, local clients‘offices, vendors to resolve undesirable operational practices.
-Guide and develop team members to resolve operational challenges faced.
-Ensure team adequately staffed to handle forecasted operational vols.
-Ensure adherence to KPI as determined by destination/origin client.
2.Project Assistance
-You will undertake project roles where applicable, either as project sponsor or project manager leading the project, either at team level or branch level.
-You will initiate projects that will improve operational efficiency or department‘s profitability,either at team level or branch level.
-You will be able to initiate, form and lead a project team that will assist you to achieve the project objectives set.
-You will be able to guide and develop team members to be effective project team members.
3.Business Development
-You will be undertaking initiatives expanding your team members‘knowledge in business development and thereafter,contribute to the department‘s profitability.
-You will be expected to keep abreast on the latest business development developments and initiate actions raising the team‘s awareness.
-You will chart the team‘s business development direction, focus areas and drawing up actions plans attaining the set targets.
4.Additional roles within team
-Depending on the team requirements, you will take on one or more co-ordinating tasks,for example, conducting the necessary training sessions to raise your team members‘knowledge level,undertake counselling sessions raising staff‘s morale.
Specific requirements for the position:
-Ability to lead a team and manage priorities and targets
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
-Ability to manage and optimize financial performance
-Analytical skills with good sense of the big picture as well as a keen eye for details
-Natural people and customer service focus
-Passion, initiative and strong result-orientation
-Good written and oral English
-Strong logistics understanding including an appreciation of how the logistics processes work and how that supports our clients is preferred
